GIFT is a little different

Hello,

Welcome, come in and make yourself at home.

If you type Gastroparesis into Google, you will get a whole list of different websites all with similar brief pages. Most of them will tell you what GP is, what the symptoms are and the very limited treatments that are available.

There is nothing wrong with that but we want GIFT to be a little different.  Yes, it is good to know the medical definition and understand what the condition is, but you are not just some random body parts. We see you as a whole human being with emotions and feelings. The main thing we want you to know is that you are not alone, we are here for you.

GIFT was started in 2012 by Natalie Roux-Bean and Rachel Stott. It is an organisation for patients by patients. At the time there were very few resources in the UK and we thought we might find a small group of us that can help each other out. After a few months the group started to grow and we literally watched a community grow before our eyes, it was one of the best things to happen since becoming poorly, it gave us hope.

Doctors do have more medical knowledge than most of us could ever hope for, it’s why we go to them and why we trust them. They can give you a diagnosis but when it is something that cant be cured, what then? You have your medications, feeding tubes, diet plans, tests but how do you actually live day to day with this illness that has turned your world upside down? There are so many unknown things and questions you don't have the answers to. Hopefully that's when you can look online and find GIFT!

For us the heart of our community is the support group, a private Facebook group where all of our "GP Family" get together and catch up or ask questions. We are always growing and expanding so if you haven't yet you can go and look at that. (All links will be at the bottom of the post) We also have a FB page, Twitter and a full website. There are lots of places to find us and hopefully in some small way we can help you feel a little less overwhelmed. We are not Doctors but we know how it feels to live with this 24/7 and you will be surprised how many tips and tricks you can learn a long the way!

GIFT also writes a lot, both Nat and myself are keen writers and we have been using the wonderful Natalie's personal blog for a long time but since we are growing so much we wanted a separate blog so we could have all our GIFT posts in one place.

So Welcome to the NEW BLOG!

We will be updating this regularly with blogs, poems, quotes and guest Bloggers so please check back for new content.

As always we wouldn't do any of this if it wasn't for you guys so thank you.
